Here are some things that every good Native Daughter should know.
First of all, when we say the Pledge of Allegiance, the phrase "one
nation under God" should not have a pause. It is meant to be one
connected phrase.
Second, with the national anthem, there is a phrase that many people
sing incorrectly. In the part that goes "o say does that
star-spangled banner yet wave", we should be singing 3 notes for the
word banner. In other words, it should sound like this:
"ba-ner-er". The incorrect way stretches it to 4 notes like this
"ba-a-ner-er". I hope this makes sense to you - if you need help,
try this website: click here to
hear the melody and to see the lyrics. Bet you didn't know
the other verses!!! (smile) I'll admit I didn't!
Third, NDGW members in particular should try to practice and learn our
state song, "I Love You California". Click here to find the
words
and for a link to the melody. The recording only goes through
one
verse and the chorus, so try it several times with each verse so you
can help others learn it when we sing at meetings!
